Happy New Year Everyone :)
After a successful debut for the new line-up last year & a merry Christmas party at Kettlethorpe Village Hall - we are looking to start the new year with a return to the White Swan Practice on Monday - looking forward to getting back in the swing early - come on down if you can make it - will be fun It's been a long time but good to be back out & playing again.
A great debut from Chris too - looking forward to more great gigs from this new line-up :) It's been a bit longer than we first thought!
Re-Branded are looking forward to playing our first gig in 4 years and we're very happy to be returning to The White Swan, Market Rasen on 30th September The line-up has changed & the setlist has changed too though you will also recognize some old favourites.# If you're free them please come & join us, enjoy a drink or 2 & sing/dance along - we'd love to see you It was good to have the whole band together to practice last night after a couple of weeks when we have been unable to have a full gathering.
For some years Sam has been wanting to do Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac) and finally we gave it a go and it sounds fantastic. Johnny's guitar solo is blistering, Ian' textured keyboards raise the song to another level, Delboy really pushes the drums to a crescendo at the end of the song in particular, Sam' acoustic guitar adds to the overall texture & her vocal delivery combined with Derek & Ian's backing vocal harmonies are great. Oh - and I get to play bass on it too. It's really good to be proven wrong on this occasion and I really look forward to playing this in a live venue near you soon :) - if you like Fleetwood Mac I think you'll love our take on it - Resistance Is Futile! We also worked on Tainted Love. We have always done our own version more akin to Imelda May' version but with Ian on keys it seems to make sense to try a hybrid with Soft Cell. To my ears our initial attempts worked well. I Really enjoyed Ian' accents and the rest of the band sounded really good too. I think we'll develop this over the next few weeks to find a version we're all happy with. Other songs out for our first try all together last night were Kids In America, Gimme Gimme Gimme, All Fired Up & The Power of Love. Early days but they are all sounding good - exciting times It's been almost 2 years since we last played live anywhere apart from rehearsals!
Such a long time it's been easy to forget how to play some songs that we've played for years. However we have been busy getting songs together & here's what we've been working on so far: New Songs: Phil Collins - In The Air Elton John - I'm Still Standing Cockney Rebel - Come Up and See Me - Make Me Smile Jace Everett - Bad Things Katrina & The Waves - Walking On Sunshine Pat Benatar - All Fired Up Paul Carrack - How Long There are alsosome songs we've done previously but will sound quite different with the addition of keyboards: Erasure - A Little Respect James - Sit Down Huey Lewis - The Power of Love Kim Wilde - Kids In America Imelda May - Tainted Love Abba - Gimme Gimme Gimme Over The next few months we'll be adding/trying many more . It's been great to be back practicing at the church in Newton on Trent & I think we're all looking forward to getting out & playing again Best Wishes Re-Branded The year has started very much like last year finished i.e. we weren't allowed to practice or play anywhere & so haven't met up for over a year.
We were very happy to hear that the recent changes in Covid restrictions have let us practice again , however, the year has also brought changes to the band. After taking most of 2019 off and being unable to play at all last year, combined with Mick retiring: Gerry has also decided it was time to hang up his sticks. Gerry started with the band in the late 90's (as The Bransby Mares) and has seen quite a few changes with us over the last 20 years. We shall miss his drumming but mainly we will miss his company. It seems hard for me to imagine the band without him behind us - we all wish him the very best and hope to see both Mick and Gerry on our future travels. Derek has been covering for our 2019 gigs and also on our recent demo and we are very happy that he has agreed to takeover fulltime on drums - together with his lead and backing vocals he will make a great contribution to our future shows. We are also very happy to announce that have made a radical change to our sound by playing with Ian - a keyboard player of great experience. Ian used to plat for Styx (registered 2 years before the American band with the same name) for 47 years. It is early days (having had only 1 practice with the band so far) but already we can see great potential for future songs and a great sound. We are working on new material and hope to be back out and playing soon Best Wishes Re-Branded We thought 2019 was pretty quiet!
We had our regular first gig of the year at BBC Radio Lincolnshire with Gerry but we knew he was having a minor surgery and would need time to recover and so we were very happy to welcome Derek back to help us out with our summer bookings in Worksop. The Greendale Oak is one of our favourite venues and we followed that up with 3 consecutive months at the Waterfront. We were very lucky with the weather each time and it was great to see support for local charity. Gerry still needed extra time off at the end of the year and so we set about recording a new set of songs in September. Mick had a problem with his shoulder at about that time and so also took some time out before he finally let us know he would be retiring. We'll miss having Mick around - not only did he help with setting up/packing up, fixing the electrics etc but (more importantly) he always had a lot of fun. Mick is a real character - we wish him the very best and hope to see him around gig in future. 2020 - Covid has put a stop to the band much the same as most things at the moment. We are still intending to get back as soon as we can (currently we are booked to play at the Lincoln 10k in November and so we hope to see everyone socially distanced there). We're all missing playing but in the meantime you can hear our latest recordings under the "Demo" tab. We recorded them at St Peter' Church in Newton On Trent - we hope you like them Stay safe & well - hope to see you soon Best wishes to all Re-Branded It's been a really good start to the year - we've started by playing 2 of our favourite venues (Greendale Oak & Galway Arms) and playing our 9th Lincoln 10K outside the BBC Radio Lincolnshire - compered by Charlie (The Boss) this year :)
A thank-you to Derek for filling in on drums this year (his 3rd gig with us & no practice sessions) at the 10K Some new songs already aired & more to come - we already have a busy schedule planned - looking forward to seeing you We're looking forward to celebrating 10 years as Re~Branded this year and getting started next week with our first gig for a while at The Half Moon in Willingham. Check our our gig list - looking good for the first 6 months - will add more later in the year.
We have been busy working on some new songs too - got some David Bowie/Billy Idol/Adelle/Tom Petty/Tina Turner almost ready & looking forward to playing them for you :) |
